I got this great email from Rob Baxter, thought I'd pass it along. If anyone is heading to Johnny Miles, please contact Rob and the email below...
Hello Chris, I am fellow runner from Kitchener, Ontario. I was born in Sydney Mines. A couple of years ago I completed a solo bike ride across Canada (in support of our cancer hospital) and upon riding into my birth town I smiled reading the welcome sign "Home of Johnny Miles, two time winner of Boston Marathon ". I ran Boston that spring of 2012, so you can imagine my pride. I did a little research and enjoyed learning about Johnny Miles' story. I learned about the marathon in his honour in New Glasgow and thought to run it some day. I registered for this year's marathon. I took on the challenge to run all 6 world majors and Big Sur for charity this year. And The Johnny Miles will be a good training run and instill some pride to participate. I'd enjoy meeting some of my Cape Breton neighbour's if a group of you are running Johnny Miles. If you know of anyone running I'd enjoy dining together on the Saturday night ( or Friday). If not, I enjoy coming to Cape Breton every now and then and will inquire about joining a run or two. Cheers Bob Robert Baxter, P.Eng., CCIM Kitchener, Ontario robert at baxterici.com

OK runners! Time to commit yourself for 2014. For anyone who did the Emma Run 10K, you can still get your CBRR points if you sign up right away (email me to let me know). The printable registration form and the online registration links are both on the right side of this page. Just do it! Registration is only 20$ for the year. For this you will:
There is a new post on the cbtriathlon blog about the Emma Van Nostrand Run. Remember to sign up on the right side of the blog homepage for automatic email updates. You can also access the blog under the "Triathlon" tab above.
About one year ago, Cape Breton lost a promising young lady when Emma Van Nostrand died while running a marathon in Toronto. A memorial run/walk for Emma last year was amazingly well attended.
This year, Emma's parents Steve and Kathy, who are very well known in the running community, are organizing a race to commemorate her. All proceed to to the scholarship run in her name at Riverview High School. The event is a 10K race (CBRR points series eligible) or a 5K walk. The run is flat and fast, heading out Coxheath Road and back. The run will take place on Sunday May 4th. Come early to check in or register as I predict this will be a HUGE event. Gun time is 10AM. Be there - it'll be a great celebration of community for runners in our area. We expect a very large turnout, and this will be the first race that Jeris Abbass will be running the new chip timing system. You can help things go much more smoothly on race weekend, and increase the odds of an on-time start, by pre-registering your information by clicking HERE |
