Hello friends of small runners!
Thanks to everyone who made it out to our little awards ceremony today. As always, we kept it simple. If your child missed the awards today, we are making arrangements to have their prize delivered via their school ASAP. Thanks to Alex & Owen’s mom who shared these photos (attached). What an impressive looking group! The James Delorey Memorial Road Race is the next kids run. It is not part of the kids series. The race is December 6 starting from Whitney Pier Memorial Junior High School. Registration for kids is at 1pm; the race is at 1:30pm. The kids pay $5, which will be donated to the SPCA in memory of James’ loyal friend, Chance. There will be no prizes, but there will be hot chocolate afterwards. The adult race has registration from 1-1:45pm, and the race is at 2pm. Adults pay $20 and get a toque. The proceeds from that race will also go to the SPCA. Regards, Karen, Bernadette, & Lee Ann cbkidsrun@gmail.com (Editor: Thanks to Karen, Bernadette, and Lee Ann for all the work they do to make this series happen every year. And congrats to the over 40 kids who qualified for a series award in 2014!) Congrats to everyone who survived an INCREDIBLY windy and difficult 3rd annual Pursuit Run today! This is the cream of the crop for age group racing here in CB. We had runners from 11yrs old to 74 yrs old run today. I correctly predicted that Martin Guest would win. At 64 years old Martin ran a course time of 35:29 that made him impossible to catch. I didn't predict that Dean Abbass would manage to get close enough to scare him, at age 52 running a 31:55 to finish just 26 seconds behind Martin. And I also didn't predict that Corey Deveaux would have a super-strong race (a course time of 29:46 - fastest of the day) to make it into 3rd place. Allan MacKenzie and Peter Hanna (7 days after a full marathon!) were not far behind Corey. Rounding out the top 10 were Erin Pyke-Forsey, Ron Walsh, Larry Maxwell (this year representing the entire Maxwell clan), Renee MacDonald, and Steve MacNeil. Thank you to all the volunteers who braved a viciously cold north wind to make the run happen today: Karen Campbell, James Forsey, Jill Vallis, Lisa MacKenzie, Glenn Smith, Julie Curwin, and Dave Gabriel. Thanks all! The full Pursuit Run results are posted here on the website. Thanks a lot to Bernadette MacLellan and Karen Campbell for all the work they do putting on the Kid's Run Series every year. This year there were over 40 finishers, many of whom were present to get their awards, and some awesome draw prizes today. To all the CBRR age-group winners this year - well done!! The club has become increasingly competitive over the last few years, and it is now very hard to "bubble up to the top" of an age division. (Age Group winners are posted at cbtrisports.com under "results"). Top finisher in each age group was this year rewarded with a 40$ gift certificate from Escape Outdoors. Remember to check them out on the main drag in North Sydney. They have been a great sponsor of the club this year. And a very big congratulations to overall series winners Justin Lalanne and Erin Pyke-Forsey, who both ran consistently well this year to take home the W's. Good on ya both. We're already making some plans for the 2015 CBRR series, which will start with the James Delorey 5K on the first weekend of December. Hope to see you there! Remember you can sign up for the CBRR 2015 series any time. 20$ gets you a pair of greart wool-blend running socks, inclusion in the 2015 Points Series, free entry in the 2015 Pursuit Run, and (in the works) discounts on some race entries. And remember this is YOUR CLUB! We appreciate your input and suggestions, and especially your volunteerism! Let me know if you have input for 2015... The Pursuit Run has become one of the looked-forward-to events on the CBRR circuit each year. This unique format gives runners a head start based on age and gender. (Thanks to the very bright folks at Dipsea.org for working out this handicapping formula). The finish is nice and simple. The first runner back across the line wins.
My odds-on favourite this year? Martin Guest. Martin ran his first marathon in over a decade more than 30 minutes under his Boston-Qualifying time. Not bad eh? How many of us have done that? Keep in mind though that it won't be easy for him. There are a lot of great runners who will be nipping at his heels. Register at the South End Community Centre (that's the old Woodill School, just across Cabot St from Atlantic St. Field in Sydney) by 12:45, in order to get over to the race start on Cromarty St. (about 1Km away). And don't forget the 2014 CBRR Awards Banquet back at the community centre after the race. See you there! |
