Kelly's Klimb has been a Velo Cape Breton Tradition now since 2008. Despite weather that was "not ideal" (to put it gently) on Sunday, 10 hearty souls braved Kelly's and did the TT. The weather was cold and damp, with a steady headwind responsible for slow times. Because of the (stupid, stupid, stupid) new rumble strips on the southeast side of Kelly's, the TT has been moved to the northwest side. This makes for a slightly longer route (although of course the same actual elevation gain) Corey Deveaux was the fastest up the mountain, followed by Allan MacKenzie. Caden MacLeod, just 13 years old, was the only female brave enough to do the Klimb this year. Brian MacEachern, just back from helping to represent Canada at the Invictus Games in Florida, and recovering not only from racing but also from a crash, also completed the Klimb. Look for full results soon, added to the KK historical results at the bottom of the "Results" page here on CBtrisports. Congrats to all who participated.

This Thursday May 12th is the Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of the Special Olympics. A number or our local athletes including Rick Wadden and Cyril MacDonald are very involved with this cause. As Rick says:
This is a very worthy cause and these athletes very much enjoy this event and their appreciation is more than I have witnessed in other events they truly are special Come on out and support them this Thursday. For more information, or to download the registration form, please visit the website at http://letrcapebreton.ca/ A few years ago, we lost a promising young Cape Bretoner. Emma Van Nostrand died in the final few miles of a marathon in Toronto.
Kathy and Steve - Emma's parents - have been a big part of the running community for many years. They have showed their strength of spirit by making something great come out of this tragedy. These are Kathy's words from Facebook: Today was Emmazing! We, the community raised $32,000 dollars bringing the total raised in 3 years to $102,000 dollars! This money will be well used in scholarships to deserving students! We thank the volunteers, participants and sponsors that all make this event happen. We look forward to seeing everyone next year, the first Sunday in May at the Coxheath rink. Thank you for keeping our Emma's memory alive (PS: remember you can get full results of all our locally-chip-timed CBRR races at limitlessracetiming.com) |
