Thanks once again this year to Allan and Lisa MacKenzie and their families for putting on the Around-the-Park 1-miler. Once again we were lucky with the weather. It was beautiful but not too hot. The race format is exciting, with separate men's/women's/kids runs. So you get to watch 2 and run one. The kid's run was very well attended this year (thanks to Karen Campbell, Lee Ann Astephen, and Bernadette MacLellan for all their work on the Kids Running Series again in 2016) Tyrell Isaac and Ashley Tierney won the 9-12 division, Audrey Bellemore and Alex Arsenault the 6-8 year olds, and Olivia Schaller and Kosai Hamadi the 5-and-under. Great job foks! The men's race was dominated by the J's. Justin Lalanne was well ahead of the pack, proving his running dominance over a wide range of distances here in CB. His time of 4:43 was close to a course record. 2nd was Jonah Hudec (having a great season) and Joey Tetford not far back in 3rd (watch for Joey this year - he's back). On the women's side, Kelly MacDonald (Rushton) dominated in 5:44. She was followed by Chrissy Smith in 2nd, and Baddeck's 13-yr-old Caden MacLeod was not far back in 3rd. 4th place was definitely worth mentioning as an impressive young-person performance. 11 year old Ella Bottomley decided to compete in the adult race and finished 4th in a very adult time of 6:29. Great job!
